Cognee
NexusAi Summary: Cognee is an open-source memory platform that converts documents, chats, and data sources into a graph memory agents can recall across sessions. It integrates via MCP and SDKs, adds citations and governance, and scales from local installs to managed Cognee Cloud.
NexusAi Overview
Install Cognee, connect a source, and run a quickstart that cognifies data into entities and links. Agents read and write through MCP or SDK calls, retrieving cited snippets and structured facts while permissions, workspaces, and schemas control who sees what.
Capabilities
Cognee fits solo developers, product engineers, and platform teams building agents that must remember previous work. It’s useful for engineering orgs maintaining large codebases, SaaS companies launching domain-aware assistants, and data teams unifying siloed knowledge. Education and enterprise deployments referenced by University of Wyoming, Knowunity, and Bayer illustrate breadth—from research memory to customer-facing retrieval with provenance. Teams valuing governance, citations, and incremental ingestion will see the biggest gains.
- Transforms documents, warehouses, chats, and APIs into a permissioned knowledge graph, extracting entities, relationships, and citations so agents can answer with provenance and recall context persistently.
- Provides an MCP server and SDKs so Claude Code, Cursor, LangGraph, OpenClaw, and other compatible agents read and write memory without bespoke glue code.
- Supports custom ontologies and schemas to model domains precisely, aligning memory with business rules, entity types, and permissions across workspaces and teams.
- Offers connectors for Slack, Notion, Google Drive, file stores, and S3-style buckets, enabling unified ingestion and incremental updates without rebuilding or manual reformatting.
- Delivers cited retrieval and structured search that combine text snippets with graph facts, improving answer accuracy and auditability for customer-facing or regulated workflows.

What People Say
Installation is straightforward: pip install cognee, run the quickstart, and connect an initial data source. Define or adopt an ontology, then enable the MCP server so compatible agents can read and write memory. For app backends, call the SDK to add sources and perform cited searches. Start locally to validate schemas and permissions, then move to Cognee Cloud for multi-workspace scale, managed operations, and enterprise support. Teams needing private deployments can explore BYO cloud options referenced in enterprise materials.
NexusAi: Cognee turns fragmented data into a permissioned memory graph agents can trust, improving recall, provenance, and multi-turn continuity.
Getting Started
Cognee distinguishes itself by focusing on graph memory over opaque vector stores, pairing MCP-native access with citations, governance, and customizable ontologies. The open-source core reduces lock-in and accelerates experimentation, while Cognee Cloud offers a clean path to production at scale. If your agents forget, struggle with provenance, or require domain rules, Cognee provides a pragmatic, engineering-friendly solution.

Cognee
Cognee is developed by Topoteretes UG in Berlin. The team builds open-source infrastructure for agent memory, focusing on knowledge graphs, MCP interoperability, and operational reliability. With an active community and growing production use, Cognee emphasizes practical engineering, governance, and EU-aligned data protections for enterprise adoption.
Cognee is an open-source agent memory platform that turns heterogeneous data into a queryable knowledge graph. Agents connect through MCP or first‑party SDKs to store, search, and cite recalled context across sessions. The system ingests warehouses, file stores, chats, and APIs via adapters, extracts entities and relationships, and maintains permission-aware recall. Developers start locally with a pip install, then graduate to Cognee Cloud for managed scale and multi-workspace operations. Custom ontologies and governance controls align memory with domain rules, while cited retrieval helps customer-facing agents answer with provenance. Engineering teams use it to keep coding agents stateful, ship domain-aware assistants, and unify documentation into durable memory. Case studies and community adoption indicate production deployments across education, enterprise, and startups, supported by a growing ecosystem of integrations and SDK activity.
